To Botox or not to Botox, is the question!

We are used to trying hundreds of skin products to target different concerns of our skin. From pigmentation to acne, the problems differ from person to person. Botox is a cosmetic procedure used to effectively deal with wrinkled skin and fine lines.

Botox is Botulinum toxin which is injected in the skin in specific quantity and strength depending on the requirement. Botox is also used to treat other conditions like migraine, excessive sweating and muscle spasms. The dosage of the treatment in children is determined by the child’s weight and in adults on the condition, your response to the treatment and results. It takes anywhere between 2 days to 2 weeks for the results to completely show and the results last for 3 to 6 months, although it can vary person to person.

If you are keen on trying this, be extremely cautious of all the allergies you have and mention it to your doctor. Sometimes the active ingredients in the Botox injections can cause your skin to react negatively. Make sure to inform your doctor about all the medications you are on, even herbal supplements. It is not recommended to go for Botox treatment during pregnancy, unless absolutely necessary. Alcohol consumption should be minimized during the treatment.

Side effects of Botox, if any are usually around the area the chemical is injected. Redness, irritation and pain is experienced by some patients. If the treatment is given near the eyes, droopy eyelids, swollen eyelids, tearing and dry eyes etc are some of the side effects that can happen. One should immediately see the doctor to check if you need any eye ointment or eye drops. Over-dosing of Botox is rare as the practitioners are very careful and experienced. Incase of overdose, the patient can experience breathing difficult or can pass out. But it is definitely not life threatening.
