Nail Disorder

Nails can reveal a great deal about one's internal health. Healthy nails are smooth and have a pinkish hue. The nail plate, skin around the nails and the tissue beneath are susceptible to many diseases. Several skin conditions , internal medical disorders, nutritional deficiencies and infections can manifest as spots, discoloration of nail and separation of nail plate from the nail bed. Specific nail changes can act as a clue to diagnosis of several conditions. Fungal infection of the nail, Onychomycosis, Paronychia (infection and inflammation of the nail folds) and Ingrown toe nails are some of the most common nail conditions seen in clinical practice. Early diagnosis and proper treatment offers the best outcome. Ingrown toe nails often warrant partial or complete removal of the nail - a procedure known as nail avulsion.
