Laser Hair Reduction

Lasers are the most effective method for permanent reduction of unwanted facial or body hair. On penetrating the skin, the laser light energy turns into heat energy which is absorbed by the melanin pigment present in the base of the hair follicle. This heat energy destroys the hair follicle and prevents it from producing hair in the future. Once destroyed, the body naturally pushes the hair out of the body within 10 to 14 days after the treatment.

Hair on any part of the body goes through three cyclical phases: the active growing phase (anagen), the resting phase (telogen) and the regression phase (catagen). At any time, all the hair follicles are not in the same phase of the cycle. Laser energy is only effective on the hair follicles that are in the active phase. In this phase the hair shaft is attached to the bulb (area from where it re grows). Hence the need for multiple sessions which should be 4-12 weeks apart. On an average, hair reduction requires a minimum of 6 to 10 sessions, depending on the amount and thickness of hair, area of the body and underlying hormonal disorders.
